Amazon's CTO built a meeting-summarizing app for some reason | TechCrunch

May 09, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Amazon CTO Werner Vogels has developed an open-source app called Distill, designed to transcribe and summarize conference calls. The app, developed with his OCTO team, takes an audio recording of a meeting, analyzes it, and generates a summary along with a list of to-do items. It uses paid Amazon products and services for its operations, including AWS Transcribe for transcription, Amazon S3 for storage, and Bedrock for summarization.

Distill allows users to choose which AI model performs the meeting summarizing, with Sonnet, a mid-range model in Anthropic’s Claude 3 family, as the default. Vogels acknowledges that the AI is not perfect and may require manual adjustment, but maintains that it still speeds up processes. He is currently working on porting Distill's codebase from Python to Rust.
