After Hours Work Could Hurt Productivity, Big Labor And Big Tech Partner On AI And More

Dec 11, 2023 - forbes.com
The latest research from Slack's Workplace Lab suggests that working fewer hours and taking regular breaks can lead to increased productivity. The study found that those who logged off at the end of the workday reported 20% higher productivity scores than those who felt pressured to work after hours. The survey also indicated that people felt they could be most productive if they had no more than two hours of meetings scheduled in a day, and at least four hours of focus time.

In other news, Microsoft and the AFL-CIO are partnering to ensure AI systems anticipate workers’ needs and include workers’ voices in their development and implementation. The partnership aims to ensure AI serves the country's workers and respects the rights of workers who want to form or join unions. This follows a contentious issue for labor, with a new poll from the AFL-CIO finding that 70% of workers fear being replaced by AI.
