AI is now supercharging Google Assistant

Feb 08, 2024 - qz.com
Google has announced a major update, launching the full version of its next-generation AI model, Gemini. The company is renaming its chatbot from Bard to Gemini, releasing a Gemini mobile app, and introducing a premium AI subscription service. The most significant change is the integration of Gemini into Google Assistant, enabling millions of users to have voice conversations with the AI model. The Gemini mobile app is now available on Android devices and has been added to the Google app on iOS. Users can access Gemini Ultra, the most powerful AI, for $19.99 a month.

Google's long-term plan appears to be replacing Assistant with Gemini. The company has also rebranded its Duet AI tool, which assists with writing and other tasks in apps like Gmail, Docs, Meet, and Drive, to Gemini. Google unveiled Gemini in December, but only the basic and less powerful tier, Gemini Pro, was accessible. Now, consumers can access Gemini Ultra, which Google claims is the most advanced AI on the market. Gemini Ultra is part of the new Google One AI Premium plan, which includes all the perks of the 2-terabyte storage plan.
