All X users can access Grok AI chatbot and its new image generator now - for free

Dec 10, 2024 - zdnet.com
Elon Musk's platform X has expanded its AI capabilities by introducing the Grok 2 chatbot to free users, allowing them to send up to 10 messages every two hours. The platform also launched a new AI image generator called Aurora, which initially faced issues with generating inappropriate content but has since been enhanced. Aurora is designed to excel at photorealistic renditions and prompt fidelity, and it will soon be able to take images as inputs. However, the rollout of these new features is gradual, with some users still seeing older versions.

The new Aurora model, developed by xAI, is an autoregressive mixture-of-experts network trained on extensive internet data. Despite previous issues, the company plans to maintain loose safeguards, as evidenced by sample generations like "Jackie Chan in Donald Trump's hairstyle." Grok's updated capabilities are expected to be available to all users within a week, although some users still see references to the older FLUX.1 model by Black Forest Labs.
