Amazon wants to host companies' custom generative AI models | TechCrunch

Apr 23, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Custom Model Import, a feature that allows companies to import and fine-tune their custom generative AI models as fully managed APIs. The feature is part of Bedrock, AWS' suite of generative AI services, and allows proprietary models to benefit from the same infrastructure as other models in Bedrock's library. The move is aimed at addressing the infrastructure challenges faced by enterprises in deploying their AI models, according to a poll by Cnvrg, Intel’s AI-focused subsidiary.

In addition to the launch of Custom Model Import, AWS has also made its Titan Image Generator generally available. The text-to-image model can create new images from a text description or customize existing ones. AWS has also released the second generation of its Titan Embeddings model, Titan Text Embeddings V2, which converts text to numerical representations to power search and personalization applications. The new model is claimed to be more efficient, cost-effective, and accurate than its predecessor.

Key takeaways:

  • AWS has launched Custom Model Import, a new feature in Bedrock, that allows organizations to import and access their in-house generative AI models as fully managed APIs.
  • Custom Model Import aims to help enterprises overcome infrastructure barriers to deploying their own generative AI models.
  • Alongside the launch of Custom Model Import, AWS has made its Titan Image Generator generally available, which can create new images based on text descriptions.
