Amazon's bet on Anthropic's AI smarts could total more than $4 billion

Amazon is planning to invest up to $4 billion in AI firm Anthropic, a rival to OpenAI, to provide advanced deep learning and other services to its Amazon Web Service (AWS) customers. The initial investment will be $1.25 billion for a minority stake, with an option to increase it to $4 billion. In return, AWS will become Anthropic's primary cloud provider for training and deploying its future foundation models. Anthropic, backed by Google, Salesforce, Zoom, and others, recently launched its first consumer-facing chatbot, Claude 2, and is developing a more powerful chatbot, Claude-Next.
