AMD Publishes XDNA Linux Driver: Support For Ryzen AI On Linux

Jan 26, 2024 - phoronix.com
AMD has made its first public code drop of the XDNA Linux driver, providing open-source support for Ryzen AI. This follows more than 1,000 requests for Linux support after AMD expressed interest in hearing from customers about Ryzen AI Linux support in October. The XDNA driver is compatible with AMD Phoenix/Strix SoCs that have Ryzen AI onboard and has been tested to work on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. However, it requires the Linux 6.7 kernel or newer with IOMMU SVA support enabled and the Xilinx XRT software built to work with this kernel driver.

The XDNA open-source Linux driver is available on GitHub under amd/xdna-driver. However, AMD has not yet outlined any plans for upstreaming this driver to the mainline kernel or their overall Linux support plans. More information about AMD's Ryzen AI / XDNA Linux plans and the performance of the driver will be covered in future articles on Phoronix.
