An AI-Altered Hitler Speech Is Going Viral On X

Mar 11, 2024 - wired.com
AI-altered video clips of Adolf Hitler's 1939 Reichstag speech have gone viral, with over 15 million views. The videos, translated from German to English, were shared by far-right conspiracy influencer Dom Lucre, who has previously shared child exploitation imagery. The videos have sparked various reactions, with some viewers expressing sympathy for the Nazi regime. Conspiracy theorist Owen Benjamin also commented on the videos, falsely claiming that they showed Hitler chastising other countries for not helping Jews.

The video clips were taken from a YouTube account called Time Unveiled, which used technology from voice-cloning startup ElevenLabs. The same technology was used earlier this year to create an AI-generated robocall impersonating President Joe Biden. Dom Lucre, whose real name is Dominick McGee, is a prominent figure in conspiracy circles, often sharing altered content, including from former president Donald Trump. Despite posting child exploitation images, his account was reinstated by Elon Musk last July.
