Aug 09, 2023 - techcrunch.com
Anthropic, an AI startup co-founded by former OpenAI executives, has launched an updated version of its text-generating model, Claude Instant 1.2. The new version incorporates features from Anthropic's flagship model, Claude 2, and shows improvements in areas such as math, coding, reasoning, and safety. Claude Instant 1.2 also generates longer, more structured responses, and is less likely to generate incorrect or nonsensical text.

Despite its advancements, Claude Instant is not Anthropic's ultimate goal, which is to create a next-gen algorithm for AI self-teaching. The company, which was launched in 2021 and has raised $1.45 billion to date, aims to compete with similar offerings from OpenAI, Cohere, and AI21 Labs. Anthropic currently has thousands of customers and partners, including Quora, DuckDuckGo, and Notion.
