Anthropic’s Claude AI chatbot gets a paid plan for heavy users

Sep 07, 2023 - theverge.com
Anthropic, an AI company backed by Google, has introduced a paid version of its Claude chatbot in the US and UK. The Claude Pro plan, priced at $20 per month in the US and £18 per month in the UK, offers priority access, early access to new features, and the ability to send more messages. Users of the Pro plan can send five times more messages compared to the free tier, with a typical user getting at least 100 messages every eight hours.

The launch of Claude Pro puts Anthropic in competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus and Quora-owned Poe, both of which also offer a $20 per month plan. Microsoft has also recently launched an enterprise version of Bing Chat. Anthropic initially launched Claude in March, marketing it as a bot that is easier to converse with and less likely to produce harmful outputs. The bot was initially only available within Slack or to businesses, but was launched to users in the US and UK in July.
