The app economy saw a resurgence in 2023 after a slowdown in 2022, with consumer spending on apps increasing by 3% to reach $171 billion, according to data.ai's annual "State of Mobile" report. Non-game apps, driven by social apps and the creator economy, saw an 11% increase in consumer spending, reaching $64 billion. The report also highlighted the growth of the genAI app market, which expanded by 7x, and the increase in apps adding AI features, with 20 apps seeing an 11% year-over-year growth in downloads.

However, mobile gaming didn't fare as well, with spending down 2% year-over-year to $107 billion.
