Apple introduces AI-powered object removal in photos with the latest iOS update | TechCrunch

Aug 29, 2024 - news.bensbites.com
Apple has released new developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1 Sequoia, introducing new Apple Intelligence features. One of these features, called Clean Up, uses AI to allow users to remove objects from photos without affecting the rest of the image. The system can even handle shadows or reflections of the object while filling in the background. This feature is similar to Google's Magic Eraser, which was made available to all Google Photos users earlier this year.

In other tech news, New Enterprise Associates (NEA) raised over $468 million for its Secondary Opportunity Fund, Bolt is awaiting shareholder approval for a funding round, and OpenAI is in talks for a new funding round at a $100B+ valuation. Reddit experienced a temporary outage due to a software update, and Bluesky introduced new 'anti-toxicity' tools. Meanwhile, Tumblr is moving to WordPress, and Google has fixed a people-generating feature in its AI-powered chatbot, Gemini.
