Aug 07, 2023 - aibeat.co
OpenAI has filed a trademark application for GPT-5, its latest Large Language Model (LLM), with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The application, filed on July 18, 2023, covers various use cases including downloadable software, SaaS services for large language models, artificial production of human speech and text, natural language processing, machine-learning based language and speech processing, and more. However, the functionalities listed are already available in GPT-4, and the application does not confirm the existence of a functioning GPT-5 product.

OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has previously stated that there is much work to be done before GPT-5 is ready, with a focus on safety audits. The company is currently focusing on improving the GPT-4 model. Despite this, Siqi Chen, founder of Runway Financial, has claimed that GPT-5 is expected to complete its training in December and that OpenAI will achieve Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) with it. However, no official timeline has been released by OpenAI.
