China has approved over 40 AI models for public use in the first six months since the approval process began, in an effort to match the U.S. in AI development. The Chinese regulators have granted approvals to 14 large language models (LLM) for public use, with Xiaomi, 4Paradigm, and 01.AI among the recipients. This is part of China's strategy to develop AI technology while maintaining control over it.

The first batch of AI models was approved in August, with Baidu, Alibaba, and ByteDance among the first to receive approvals. Two more batches were approved in November and December, followed by another batch this month.
