Cyvl.ai is bringing data-driven solutions to transportation infrastructure | TechCrunch

Mar 27, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Cyvl.ai, a Boston-based startup that uses sensors, LiDAR, cameras, and AI to help municipalities and civil engineering firms digitally track the conditions of transportation infrastructure, has raised $6 million in funding. The company, co-founded by CEO Daniel Pelaez, was born out of a need for better data on road repairs and other infrastructure issues. Cyvl.ai's technology creates a digital twin of infrastructure pieces, identifies weaknesses, and predicts repair events. The firm has partnered with external civil engineering firms who conduct road surveys on behalf of cities and towns, and its software is currently used by nearly 200 municipalities.

The recent investment round was led by Companyon Ventures, with participation from Argon Ventures, AeroX Ventures, Alumni Ventures, MassVentures, Launch Capital, and RiverPark Ventures. This brings the company's total funding to $10 million. Despite the challenges of selling to governments, Cyvl.ai has generated close to $2 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in just 2.5 years of operation. The company, which currently has 11 employees, plans to double its workforce by the end of the year.
