Dell promises 'every PC is going to be an AI PC' whether you like it or not

Feb 27, 2024 - theregister.com
Dell Technologies is preparing to release a range of new devices, banking on the growing hype around AI PCs. The company believes that the industry is on the verge of a significant refresh cycle, with customers increasingly interested in AI PCs. Dell's vice president for Commercial PCs and Software, Meghana Patwardhan, stated that every PC will eventually be an AI PC. The company is hoping that the excitement around AI will translate into sales, as customers look to upgrade their devices to be capable of running on-device AI.

At the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Dell showcased new versions of its Latitude 7350 convertible and Precision 3680 tower, among other devices. The company also highlighted its focus on hybrid working with the Premier Wireless ANC headset, featuring AI-based noise cancellation. Despite the hype, defining use cases for AI has been a challenge for PC makers, with analysts suggesting that these have yet to be fully articulated. However, Dell is confident that the future will see every PC as an AI PC, given that an AI PC is essentially a regular PC with additional RAM, a decent GPU, and a Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
