Singer-songwriter Grimes is launching an AI-powered toy named Grok, designed to converse with children. The toy, created with OpenAI’s technology, is part of a collection of screen-free AI plushies. Grimes, who is an investor and advisor in the toy company, stated that the toys were designed with her children in mind. However, the AI chatbot Grok, recently launched by Elon Musk's AI company xAI, is not integrated into the toy.
Grimes and Elon Musk, who co-parent their three children, had their eldest child in 2020 and their youngest in 2022. The three plushies, named Grok, Gabbo, and Grem, are set to start shipping in early 2024. Musk's AI company xAI described the chatbot Grok as having a 'rebellious streak' and being inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
