Exclusive: Metaplane nets $13M to detect data anomalies with AI

Mar 05, 2024 - venturebeat.com
Boston-based startup Metaplane has raised $13.8 million in a series A funding round to further develop its AI-powered data observability platform. The round was led by Felicis, with participation from Khosla Ventures, Flybridge, Y Combinator, Stage 2 Capital, B37, and SNR. Metaplane, founded by MIT graduate Kevin Hu, former HubSpot engineer Peter Casinelli, and ex-Appcues developer Guru Mahendran, aims to improve and rectify data quality issues for enterprises. The company plans to use the funds to enhance its platform and compete with heavily funded players like Monte Carlo, Observe, and Acceldata in the data observability space.

Metaplane's platform integrates with the data stack, allowing users to monitor data quality metrics such as freshness, row count, uniqueness, and nullness. The system's machine learning model trains on the data profile, using historical metadata, and then starts flagging data anomalies within a day or two. The company has grown its customer base three-fold over the past year and is already working with brands such as Bose, Sigma, Klaviyo, and ClickUp. In 2023, its ARR grew six-fold while the customer base grew three-fold to over 100 enterprises.
