Fabric introduces an AI-powered workspace and home for all your information | TechCrunch

Nov 07, 2023 - techcrunch.com
Fabric, a new startup founded by London-based software engineer Jonathan Bree, has launched an AI-powered service designed to enhance personal productivity by organizing documents and other files. The service, which is opt-in and works with a range of files and uploads, allows users to create shared spaces for collaboration and uses an AI assistant to help users find information. Fabric also includes a built-in search box and an AI chatbot, Fabric Assistant, which can help users find information using natural language queries.

Fabric uses a dozen AI technologies, including OpenAI’s automatic speech recognition system Whisper and AI models from Anthropic. The company has built its own proprietary “unwrap engine” that detects the file type and applies the correct tool for the job. The service is available via the web, as a browser extension, a desktop app, or a native mobile app. Fabric is targeting researchers, creatives, and other power users who frequently switch contexts throughout their day. The startup has raised a pre-seed round of $1 million led by Seedcamp, with participation from Acequia Capital and other angel investors.
