Fintech startup Forward grabs $16M to take on Stripe, lead future of integrated payments | TechCrunch

May 30, 2024 - techcrunch.com
After selling his second company, Bypass, to Fiserv in 2020, Brandon Lloyd identified a gap in the payments industry where software companies were losing out on potential revenue to payments providers. In response, Lloyd, along with colleagues Derek Victory and Danielle Madison, founded Forward, an Austin-based company that aims to shift the economics back to SaaS companies. Forward's software integrates with its customers' software, managing authorization, settling transactions, moving money, and handling reconciliation, thereby saving them money.

Forward began processing payments in Q4 2023 and has already conducted a few million transactions. The company also counts Fiserv as a customer, enabling the latter to expand into the managed PayFac category. Forward recently announced $16 million in seed financing, led by Commerce Ventures, Elefund, and Fiserv. The funds will be used to expand the company’s capacity and invest in technology development, including machine learning and artificial intelligence.
