First Impressions of Gemini: Google's Newest Major AI Upgrade - Video

Dec 08, 2023 - cnet.com
Google has announced Gemini, a new foundation for its advanced AI technology, including its Bard AI chatbot. This is the third major update in less than a year, as Google attempts to compete with its biggest rival, OpenAI. Gemini is unique in its ability to understand not just text, but also video, photos, audio, and programming code. This multimedia understanding allows for more sophisticated processing, such as recognizing a gradually developing drawing or following a cup game. However, it's still a demo video and hasn't been tested with all multimedia input yet.

There are currently three versions of Gemini: the pro version, which powers the Bard Chatbot; the nano version, which can run on a smartphone; and Gemini Ultra, the most powerful version, set to arrive in 2024. Google is yet to reveal the cost of using Gemini Ultra, but it is expected to be a premium version requiring a subscription. A new version of Bard, called Bard Advanced, is also expected to be released, with its cost yet to be determined.
