May 15, 2024 - blog.google
Google DeepMind has announced updates to its Gemini family of models, including the new 1.5 Flash, a lightweight model for speed and efficiency, and Project Astra, a vision for the future of AI assistants. The 1.5 Flash model is optimized for high-volume tasks and is more cost-efficient to serve. It excels at summarization, chat applications, image and video captioning, and data extraction from long documents. The company has also improved the 1.5 Pro model, enhancing its code generation, logical reasoning, and planning, among other features.

In addition, Google DeepMind is introducing updates to the Gemini family of models, announcing the next generation of open models, Gemma 2, and sharing progress on Project Astra. Project Astra aims to develop universal AI agents that can understand and respond to the complex and dynamic world just like people do. The company has developed prototype agents that can process information faster and respond quickly in conversation. Some of these capabilities will be integrated into Google products later this year.
