Google adds AI-generated summaries, definitions, and more to search results

Aug 16, 2023 - aibeat.co
Google is introducing AI-powered snapshots at the top of search results to summarize the searched information, making it easier for users to find data. The snapshots will also suggest follow-up questions or next steps, leading users to a conversational mode for more information. Context will be carried over from question to question, and users will find jumping-off points to web content and a range of perspectives. AI-generated responses will now also include definitions of important concepts, with improvements being made to responses related to topics like science, economics, history, etc.

In addition to these, Google is introducing features to make learning easier while searching and browsing the web, including the ability to summarize articles within Chrome. These features are currently being introduced through Search Labs, an opt-in program for users to access and experiment with new features being tested in Search products. They are currently available for results in English within the United States and can be accessed using Chrome on desktop and the Google app on Android and iOS. The announcement coincides with a report that Google is preparing to launch Gemini, the next generation of its AI model, this fall.
