Google announces 30000 layoffs from ad sales division post new AI innovation

Dec 28, 2023 - storyboard18.com
Google is planning to lay off 30,000 employees from its ad sales division following advancements in artificial intelligence, according to Sean Downey, president of the Americas and global partners. The move comes after the introduction of an AI-powered innovation called Performance Max, launched in 2021, which can automatically suggest and create ads for customers, rendering the ad sales unit redundant.

Performance Max has been rapidly adopted by advertisers to sell ads for Google services such as YouTube, Gmail, Discover, Search, Maps, etc. This layoff follows an earlier one this year when Google fired 12,000 employees, marking the largest exodus in the company's history.
