Google Chrome will summarize entire articles for you with built-in generative AI

Aug 16, 2023 - theverge.com
Google is adding a new feature to its AI-powered Search Generative Experience (SGE) that will allow it to summarize articles on the web. This feature, called "SGE while browsing," is being rolled out as an early experiment in the opt-in Search Labs program. It will first be available on the Google app on Android and iOS, and will later be introduced to the Chrome browser on desktop. The feature will generate key points from an article when a user taps an icon at the bottom of the screen, but it will only work on articles that are freely available and not paywalled.

In addition to this, Google is also making other improvements to SGE. Users will be able to hover over certain words in search results about topics like science, economics, and history to get definitions or diagrams. Google is also simplifying the way SGE summarizes coding information. The company, which announced SGE in May, has been continuously improving it and has received positive user feedback.
