Google Confirms $1 Trillion AI Security Protection For Pixel Users

Nov 14, 2024 - forbes.com
Google is introducing new real-time and AI-powered protections for Pixel users to combat the increasing threat of scams, which cost victims upwards of $1 trillion every year. The first of these protections, Scam Detection, uses on-device AI to identify potential scam calls in real-time by detecting conversation patterns associated with fraudulent calls. The feature is designed with user privacy in mind, ensuring that no conversation audio or transcription is stored on the device, sent to Google servers, or retrievable after the call.

In addition to Scam Detection, Google is also enhancing Google Play Protect, which works in real-time to protect users from malicious or unsafe apps. It does this by analyzing behavioral signals related to the use of sensitive permissions and interactions with other apps and services. If a harmful app is found, users will receive a real-time alert, allowing them to take immediate action to protect their device. This protection also happens on the device in a privacy-preserving way through Private Compute Core, which allows Google to protect users without collecting data.
