Google Gemini's Imagen 3 lets players design their own chess pieces | TechCrunch

Nov 27, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Google Labs has launched a new online project called GenChess, which allows players to customize their own chess pieces using text prompts via Google’s image generation model, Gemini Imagen 3. Players can create their own themed chess set, with two styles available: classic and creative. After creating a set, players can generate an opponent to play against, with three difficulty settings and two timer options available.

In addition to GenChess, Google announced four other chess-related initiatives, including a partnership with the International Chess Federation (FIDE) for a coding challenge to create AI chess engines on Kaggle. The Chess Gem game for Gemini, a conversational offering that allows players to engage in chess games within the Gemini app, will launch next month. However, this feature will only be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers.
