Google Photos rolling out ‘Stacks’ for auto-grouping, better document sort, and reminders

Nov 15, 2023 - 9to5google.com
Google Photos is introducing new features including auto-grouping Photo Stacks, which uses AI to identify and group similar photos taken at the same time. The Photo Stacks are labeled with a count and the best photo is chosen as the cover. Users can view all images in a carousel, set a different top pick, remove from stack, and delete some photos to clean up their library.

Additionally, Google Photos is improving the automatic recognition and categorization of screenshots and pictures of documents using AI. Users can find these in the "Documents" carousel in the Search tab. Google Photos will also prompt users to set a reminder for screenshots of tickets or pictures of flyers for upcoming events. Users can choose to automatically archive screenshots and documents after 30 days, which will hide them from the main gallery but keep them accessible in dedicated albums. These features are being rolled out to the Android and iOS apps.
