Google rolls out new AI healthcare models

Dec 13, 2023 - beckershospitalreview.com
Google is launching MedLM, a suite of AI models designed to assist clinicians and researchers in conducting complex studies and summarizing clinician-patient interactions, among other tasks. The suite includes a large and a medium-sized AI model, both based on Med-PaLM 2, a language model trained on medical data. The AI model is available for eligible Google Cloud customers in the U.S. as of Dec. 13, with costs varying based on the utilization of different models.

The company plans to introduce healthcare-specific versions of Gemini, its latest AI model, to MedLM in the future. The larger MedLM model is designed for complex tasks requiring extensive knowledge and significant computing power, while the medium-sized model is optimized for specific or real-time functions. HCA Healthcare, based in Nashville, Tenn., is planning to test the Gemini model and implement MedLM.
