Google's AI Mode rolls out to US, will add support for deeper research, comparison shopping, and more

Google announced at its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2025, that its experimental AI Mode for Google Search will be available to all users in the U.S. this week. AI Mode allows users to ask complex, multi-part questions and receive detailed answers, building on the existing AI Overviews feature. AI Overviews, despite some accuracy issues, has been widely adopted with over 1.5 billion monthly users. The feature will expand to over 200 countries and territories and support more than 40 languages. Search Live, launching later this summer, will enable real-time interactive queries using a phone's camera. Personalized search results will be available by connecting Google Apps, starting with Gmail, to provide context-based recommendations. Google emphasizes user control over app connections to address privacy concerns.
