Feb 08, 2024 - theverge.com
Google has announced that it is renaming its Bard chatbot to Gemini and is releasing a dedicated Gemini app for Android. The company is also integrating all its Duet AI features in Google Workspace into the Gemini brand. The most capable version of Google’s large language model, Gemini Ultra 1.0, is also being released to the public. The new app can set Gemini as the default assistant on Android devices, replacing Google Assistant.

Google is not releasing a dedicated Gemini app for iOS but users will be able to access all the AI features in the Google app. The company is also rebranding its chatbot and AI features in Google Workspace apps like Gmail and Docs, previously known as Duet AI, to Gemini. To use Gemini Ultra, users will have to sign up for a Gemini Advanced subscription, which is part of the new $20-a-month Google One AI Premium plan. The subscription also includes 2TB of Google Drive storage and other features of the Google One subscription.
