Google’s Bard chatbot now responds in real time — and you can shut it up mid-sentence

Oct 27, 2023 - theverge.com
Google's Bard AI chatbot now has the ability to respond to questions in real time, a feature previously only available on Microsoft's Bing Chat. Users can switch between real-time responses and complete responses using the cog icon in the top-right corner of Bard's window. If a user doesn't like the response being generated, they can cut off the bot mid-sentence using the "Skip response" button, allowing them to ask another question or regenerate the response without waiting for the full answer.

Google has also introduced several other updates to Bard. Users can now view uploaded images in shared conversations and Bard can summarize more emails at once if used with Gmail. The company also claims that Bard can better understand when users need the latest emails. Other features include the ability to view alternate responses, modify the tone of the response, and cross-check answers with information from Google Search.

Key takeaways:

  • Google's Bard AI chatbot can now respond to questions in real time, providing a glimpse of the answer as it's being generated.
  • If users don't want real-time responses, they can switch between "Respond in real time" and "Respond when complete" options.
  • Users can now cut off the bot mid-sentence if they don't like the response that's being generated, and can also view Bard's alternate responses or modify the response to be more casual or professional.
