Google's Gemini comes to databases | TechCrunch

Apr 09, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Google has announced the public preview of Gemini in Databases at its annual Cloud Next conference. The AI-powered toolset is designed to simplify database management for Google Cloud customers. It includes Database Studio, an SQL editor that can generate, summarize, and fix certain SQL code errors, and AI-assisted migrations through Google's Database Migration Service. The Gemini models can convert database code and provide explanations and recommendations. The Database Center allows users to interact with databases using natural language and manage a fleet of databases.

Google is also integrating Gemini with Looker, its business intelligence tool. The private preview of Gemini in Looker will allow users to interact with their business data conversationally. Features include report, visualization and formula generation, and automated Google Slide presentation generation. The move could be seen as a response to Microsoft's Copilot in Azure SQL Database, which brought generative AI to its cloud database service.
