Grimes’ new AI toy Grok has no connection to Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok

Dec 14, 2023 - theverge.com
Musician Grimes has partnered with toy company Curio and OpenAI to create a line of interactive AI plush toys that can converse with and learn from their owners. The three toys, named Gabbo, Grem, and Grok, each have unique personalities and are voiced by Grimes, who is also an investor and advisor for the product. The toys currently have a child-friendly personality, but the company is developing a feature that allows parents to set more preferences.

The AI toys require a Wi-Fi connection to operate and come with an app that provides parents with a written transcript of their child's conversations with the toys. The company assures that no voice data will be stored and transcript storage complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, with transcripts being deleted after 90 days. The toys are available for preorder at $99 each on the Curio website, with the first orders expected to ship in early 2024.
