In the first half of 2024, AI startups globally received more than $35.5 billion in investments, according to recent Crunchbase data. Five out of six venture rounds exceeding $1 billion were raised by AI companies, with U.S. startups raising two of these billion-dollar rounds and 64% of the mega-rounds. Some of the U.S.-based AI companies that raised $100 million or more in 2024 include Hebbia, Skild AI, Bright Machines, Etched.ai, EvolutionaryScale, AKASA, AlphaSense, xAI, Scale AI, Suno, Weka, CoreWeave, Blaize, Augment, Cognition, Xaira Therapeutics, Cyera, Celestial AI, FundGuard, Together AI, Zephyr AI, Glean, Figure, Abridge, Recogni, Lambda, Magic, and Kore.ai.
In other news, AT&T confirmed a data breach that allowed cybercriminals to steal the phone records of nearly all its customers. The stolen data contains phone numbers and AT&T records of calls and text messages over a six-month period. The company will begin notifying around 110 million AT&T customers about the breach.
