Hugging Face launches open source AI assistant maker to rival OpenAI’s custom GPTs

Feb 03, 2024 - venturebeat.com
Hugging Face, a New York-based startup, has launched third-party customizable Hugging Chat Assistants, a free product that allows users to create their own AI chatbots. The new offering is an open-source alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and unlike OpenAI's custom GPT Builder, it does not require a paid subscription. Users can choose from several open-source large language models (LLMs) to power their AI Assistant, including Mistral’s Mixtral and Meta’s Llama 2.

The company has also created a central repository of third-party customized Hugging Chat Assistants, similar to OpenAI's GPT Store. Some users in the open-source AI community have praised Hugging Chat Assistants for its user customizability and free access. However, it currently lacks some features of custom GPTs, such as web search, retrieval augmented generation, and logo generation.
