Humane pushes Ai Pin ship date to mid-April | TechCrunch

Feb 23, 2024 - techcrunch.com
Humane's first-generation product, the Ai Pin, has been delayed from March to mid-April, according to a new video from the company's Head of Media, Sam Sheffer. The first units are expected to leave the factory at the end of March, with "priority access" customers receiving the unit in mid-April and the remaining preorders arriving shortly after. The Ai Pin, a wearable device, is seen as the first major example of a growing trend in consumer hardware, where startups are using generative AI for new form factors.

Humane, which has raised around $230 million to date, has a lot riding on this launch. The company recently laid off 10 employees, or 10% of its workforce, a move that is notable for a well-funded startup at a time when it needs to project confidence. The Ai Pin is currently available for preorder at $699, with those ordering before March 31 receiving three months of the device’s $24/month subscription service for free.
