IBC Accelerators: OBS, BT, and ITV to pioneer AI & 5G innovations in sports broadcasting

The IBC Accelerator Media Innovation Programme for 2025 has announced eight new Accelerator projects and one Special Incubator project aimed at addressing real-world challenges in the media, entertainment, and technology sectors. These projects, pitched at the BBC Broadcasting House, focus on innovations in AI and 5G technologies for sports production and broadcasting. Notable projects include a Generative AI Framework for broadcasters, AI Assistance Agents in live production, ultra-low latency live streaming, and a cloud-based Master Control system. The programme, sponsored by Google Cloud, AMD, and HP, facilitates collaboration between industry leaders and aims to showcase proof of concepts at IBC2025 in September.

The initiative brings together media technology buyers and developers in a collaborative environment to fast-track solutions within a six-month timeframe. Over the past six years, the Accelerator Programme has delivered more than 44 projects with participation from over 300 organizations. The 2025 cycle includes projects proposed by major industry players such as the BBC, ITN, Comcast, and Olympic Broadcasting Services, focusing on areas like content provenance, private 5G networks, energy consumption in streaming, and personalized sports experiences. IBC2025 will be held from September 12-15 at the RAI Amsterdam.
