Intel has decided to cancel its Falcon Shores AI chip and will instead use it as an internal test chip, shifting its focus to Jaguar Shores for AI data center solutions. During the company's fourth-quarter earnings call, co-CEO Michelle Johnston Holthaus emphasized the need to simplify Intel's roadmap and concentrate resources on developing a system-level solution at rack scale with Jaguar Shores to better address the AI data center market. Holthaus acknowledged that Intel is not yet significantly participating in the cloud-based AI data center market and expressed a commitment to improving their position.
Holthaus highlighted the lessons learned from the Gaudi 3 chip, noting that delivering just the silicon is insufficient. Customers are looking for full-scale rack solutions, which Jaguar Shores aims to provide. She emphasized the importance of addressing customer needs by lowering costs and increasing compute efficiency, suggesting that a one-size-fits-all approach is inadequate. Holthaus sees opportunities to leverage Intel's core assets in innovative ways to offer compelling total cost of ownership solutions across the AI continuum.
