Introducing Daisy, An ‘AI Granny’ Outwitting Scammers One Call At A Time

Nov 15, 2024 - forbes.com
British telecom company Virgin Media O2 has introduced Daisy, an AI chatbot designed to waste scammers' time by keeping them on the phone as long as possible. Daisy, also known as O2’s “head of scammer relations,” impersonates an older adult, a demographic often targeted by scammers. Unlike human scambaiters, Daisy can engage with scammers 24/7, frustrating them with long, irrelevant conversations and providing false personal information.

Daisy uses various AI models to transcribe the scammer's voice into text and respond using a custom large language model. The AI was trained with the help of Jim Browning, a popular YouTube scambaiter. O2 claims that Daisy has already wasted hundreds of hours of scammers' time and urges consumers to remain vigilant about potential scams. While Daisy alone can't stop scammers, she could be a valuable tool in slowing them down.
