Investing.com Accused of Using AI to Plagiarize Other Websites

Dec 11, 2023 - futurism.com
Investing.com, a high-traffic financial site, has been accused of plagiarizing content from other websites using artificial intelligence (AI). The site has reportedly published several articles that closely resemble those posted on other sites just hours earlier. In one instance, an article about a rise in a crypto token price used similar language and identical statistics to a post on the CryptoNewsLand blog. The Investing.com article was reportedly "generated with the support of AI and reviewed by an editor."

This is not the first time a respected news source has been accused of using AI to plagiarize content. Earlier this year, CNET was also caught publishing work that appeared to plagiarize other publications. This trend is concerning, especially given the already fractured state of the news industry. It is unlikely that universal standards will be created or enforced until it is too late.

Key takeaways:

  • Investing.com, one of the highest-trafficking financial sites in the US, is suspected of plagiarizing content from other websites using artificial intelligence.
  • The site has published articles that are very similar in language and content to pieces posted on other sites just hours before.
  • Investing.com does not cite or link to the original sources in their posts, which is a common practice when aggregating content.
  • This incident highlights a growing trend of respected news sources using AI to plagiarize content, which is concerning for the integrity of the news industry.
