Korea's internet giant Naver unveils generative AI services | TechCrunch

South Korean internet search company Naver has launched its own generative artificial intelligence tool, HyperCLOVA X. The tool offers services like a ChatGPT-like AI chatbot, CLOVA X, and a generative AI-based search engine, Cue, which is comparable to Microsoft Bing. The beta service for CLOVA X started in August in English and Korean, while Cue will be available for beta testing in September and will be incorporated into Naver's search engine in November.

Naver Cloud, the company's cloud unit, is also developing multimodal language models for CLOVA X that can analyze and generate text, images, videos, and audio. Naver aims to target regions not yet covered by global competitors, such as South Korea, Japan, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The company plans to open its second data center, GAK Sejong, with 600,000 servers in South Korea for its generative AI services in November.
