Meta Publicly Launches AI Image Generator Trained On Your Facebook, Instagram Photos - Slashdot

Dec 08, 2023 - meta.slashdot.org
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Quest VR, has launched a standalone text-to-image AI generator service called "Imagine". The service, which was previously available within Facebook and Instagram Messengers, allows users to generate images from text on a dedicated website, although they still need to log in with a Meta or Facebook/Instagram account.

The Imagine service is built on Meta's own AI model, Emu, which was trained on 1.1 billion Facebook and Instagram user photos. The model was fine-tuned around quality metrics, requiring only a small amount of high-quality images and text to significantly impact the aesthetics of the generated images. However, despite Meta's support for open source AI, neither Emu nor the Imagine service appear to be open source.
