Facebook's parent company, Meta, is partnering with AI firm Hugging Face and European cloud infrastructure company Scaleway to launch an AI-focused startup program at the Station F startup megacampus in Paris. The program aims to foster an "open and collaborative" approach to AI development in the French tech industry. This comes at a time when there is a growing debate over "open" versus "closed" AI development, with Meta advocating for more openness in AI development.

From now until December 1, 2023, startups can apply to join the new "AI Startup Program" at Station F. Five winners will proceed to an accelerator program running from January to June. The selected startups will work on projects built on open foundation models or demonstrate a willingness to integrate these models into their products and services. The winning startups will receive mentoring from Meta and Hugging Face researchers and engineers, and compute resources from Scaleway.
