Microsoft Corp. has announced plans to invest $1.7 billion in Indonesia to expand its cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure. The investment, which will be made over a period of four years, was announced by CEO Satya Nadella after a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
In addition to the infrastructure investment, Microsoft has also committed to training 2.5 million people in Southeast Asia in AI skills. This includes 840,000 individuals in Indonesia. The move is seen as a bet on Southeast Asia’s largest economy to drive growth.
