Microsoft’s next Surface laptops will reportedly be its first true ‘AI PCs’

Dec 28, 2023 - theverge.com
Microsoft is reportedly preparing to upgrade its Surface lineup with new AI-enabled features, including a next-gen neural processing unit (NPU), according to Windows Central. The upcoming Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 will offer Intel and Arm-based options, with the Arm-based devices powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X chips. These devices, codenamed CADMUS, are designed to run the AI features Microsoft is planning for a future Windows release and will have improvements in performance, battery life, and security.

The Surface Pro 10 is expected to have a brighter, anti-glare display supporting HDR and a resolution of either 2160 x 1440 or 2880 x 1920, and may support a new Type Cover with a button for Windows Copilot. The Surface Laptop 6 will reportedly feature a slightly larger 13.8-inch display for the smaller model, with the 15-inch model remaining the same size. It may also have new ports, a haptic touchpad, and a keyboard button for Windows Copilot. Both devices are expected to be released next year, with a significant Surface Pro design change anticipated for 2025.
