Paris-based AI firm Mistral AI has raised $500 million in equity and $140 million in debt, tripling its valuation to $6 billion. The funding round was led by General Catalyst and included investors such as Lightspeed Venture Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Nvidia, Samsung Venture Investment, Salesforce Ventures 1, and others. This follows a round in December where Mistral raised $415 million at a $2 billion valuation. The company offers large language models, some for free, but charges for access to its proprietary models via an application programming interface.

In other AI funding news, market intelligence platform AlphaSense raised $650 million at a $4 billion valuation. The round was co-led by Viking Global Investors and BDT & MSD Partners, with participation from new investors including J.P. Morgan Growth Equity Partners and SoftBank Vision Fund 2. As part of the deal, AlphaSense acquired research startup Tegus for approximately $930 million. The New York-based startup uses AI and natural language processing to help clients form corporate and investment strategies. The company has now raised a total of $1.4 billion since its inception.
