MSI Claw hands-on: the Steam Deck rival with Intel inside

Jan 09, 2024 - theverge.com
MSI has announced the Claw, a handheld Windows gaming PC designed to compete with the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, priced at $699. The device features an Intel Core Ultra processor, which MSI claims outperforms AMD in terms of performance and battery life. The Claw has a similar design to the ROG Ally, with larger grips for comfort, a 7-inch 120Hz 1080p IPS screen, and a 53Wh battery. It also includes features such as variable refresh rate and Hall effect joysticks.

However, early tests at CES 2024 suggest the device's performance is not yet smooth, with stuttering gameplay and frame spikes. The device struggled in a benchmark test even at low settings, but it does offer turbo modes for increased performance. The Claw also features Wi-Fi 7 and an AI-powered performance mode. Despite high power consumption, MSI claims the device can last two hours on a charge for demanding games, and up to five hours for video playback.
