Multiverse Computing raises $215M for tech that could radically slim AI costs | TechCrunch

Jun 12, 2025 - techcrunch.com
Spanish startup Multiverse Computing has raised €189 million ($215 million) in a Series B funding round, driven by its innovative technology, CompactifAI. This quantum-computing inspired compression technology reduces the size of large language models (LLMs) by up to 95% without affecting performance. Multiverse offers compressed versions of open-source LLMs, such as Llama 4 Scout and Mistral Small 3.1, and plans to release more models soon. These "slim" models are available on Amazon Web Services or can be licensed for on-premises use, offering significant cost savings and increased speed. Some models are so efficient they can run on devices like PCs, phones, and Raspberry PIs.

The company was co-founded by CTO Román Orús, known for his work on tensor networks, and CEO Enrique Lizaso Olmos, a former banking executive. The Series B round was led by Bullhound Capital, with participation from investors like HP Tech Ventures and Toshiba. Multiverse holds 160 patents and serves 100 customers globally, including Iberdrola and the Bank of Canada. With this funding, Multiverse has raised approximately $250 million to date.
