Musk's xAI set to launch first AI model to select group

Nov 04, 2023 - reuters.com
Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI, is set to release its first AI model to a select group on Saturday. The release comes nearly a year after OpenAI's ChatGPT spurred a surge in adoption of generative AI technology. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI, has stated that xAI's new model is currently the best in existence and will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers once it exits early beta. X, formerly known as Twitter, recently introduced two new subscription plans, including the Premium+ tier.

Musk has previously criticized Big Tech's AI efforts and has expressed plans to launch a truth-seeking AI to rival Google's Bard and Microsoft's Bing AI. The team behind xAI, launched in July, includes members from Google's DeepMind, the Windows parent, and other top AI research firms. xAI works closely with X, Tesla, and other companies, and has signed a contract to train its AI model on Oracle's cloud.
